A Trailer Boat Cruising Guide to Kelleys Island
Facilities for Boaters
Kelleys Island features several marinas, all within a relatively small area on the south side of the island. Seaway Marina offers the most amenities to visiting boaters, and features the only fuel dock and pumpout on the island. The marina is cut into the land itself, rather than being protected by a breakwater, providing excellent shelter from the lake waves. The grounds are large and park-like, with several picnic pavilions and even a small swimming beach. A large convenience store is located on the premises, as is a Laundromat and public rest rooms with coin-operated showers.
Just west is the small Unique Marker Yacht Club, which offers a few transient slips by reservation. Unique Marker can be contacted by calling 419-746-2779.
In the downtown waterfront, a few blocks farther west, is The Casino, which offers transient slips with electricity but no water. The Casino is primarily a powerboat marina whose biggest draw is their restaurant and bar, which features live music on the weekends. Be forewarned that rafting is mandatory at The Casino docks.
Next door to The Casino, you will find the more traditional Portside Marina. Like Seaway Marina, the Portside offers slips with water and electricity and features showers and a convenience store with basic boat essentials. There is a small restaurant and bar at the Portside with outside seating, featuring live music on a regular schedule. The Portside also features a very professional staff who will be happy to help you dock your boat--just hail them on VHF channel 68 prior to your arrival.
