Although it would be possible to anchor in reasonable comfort at several places in the bay, once you've visited Marina Lake, you probably wouldn't bother considering anyplace else. Entrance from the harbor is through the well-marked channel on the north shore between the Perry Monument and the tan-colored tower at the Waterworks dock. Be careful when approaching from the east as the water is quite shallow between Crystal Point and the channel for a good thousand feet offshore.

The anchorage here is quiet and the water is calm. The bottom is mud and weeds and offers good holding. On the two weeknights in August that I was there, I wasn't jostled by a single wake the entire stay. Water depths are consistent throughout, allowing you to drop the hook pretty much anywhere you'd like. You're surrounded by a marsh, so get your mosquito netting up early and have bug repellent on hand if you plan to hang out in the cockpit and enjoy the night air. There is a sandy point just opposite the launch ramp that is a popular spot to beach.

A marina, owned by the park, is at the southern shore of the anchorage. It features a fuel dock and pumpout. Transient slips are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Stop in at the marina office from the launch ramp or pull up to the fuel dock in your boat to check for availability. You can also contact them by calling 814-833-0176 or 814-833-7424 May through October.

The channel to marina lake as seen from the bay. Approach from the south or west only as the east side is quite shallow. Leaving Marina Lake on a Tuesday morning. The buildings of Dobbins Landing can be seen through the channel. The sandy spit across from the launch ramp on Marina Lake is a popular place to beach your boat. Marina Lake is in the middle of a marsh, so make sure you have good screens. Aboard the Wanderlust, I use a nylon screen with weights sewn along the edge to cover the companionway opening.
The fuel dock at the Marina Lake marina. Tie up here to check for a transient slip. The Marina Lake marina is next door to the launch ramps, making it a perfect place to take a slip for the day, unhitch your trailer and explore the inland attractions by car. An early riser spends the morning fishing at Marina Lake. Lake is uniformly deep from end to end, allowing lots of room between boats.
