A Trailer Boat Cruising Guide to Put-in-Bay
Dining and Entertainment
Put-in-Bay offers a huge variety of dining and drinking options, many of which feature live entertainment. As previously mentioned The Boardwalk offers a variety of venues under one roof, from a quick burger to a full-course meal. You can visit the Boardwalk either from the land or take up a slip at the attached marina. Similarly, Axel & Harry’s Waterfront Grille also features an attached dock for access to their full-service restaurant. Both eateries offer dockage discounts for dining with them (at least on the weekdays). Check with them in advance for availability and conditions. Although the marina is private, the Crew’s Nest, west of the Boardwalk, also offers fine dining with a waterfront view.
Once ashore, the streets around DeRivera park offer many dining options. My favorite place is Tippers, located at the southwest corner of the park. Tippers is a family-style restaurant that combines a large menu selection with a daily all-you-can eat buffet, offering literally something for everyone. The prices at Tippers would be considered fair anywhere but for the island, are a genuine bargain. Next door is the much more rowdy Beer Barrel Saloon and the world’s longest permanent bar. Documented in the Guinness Book of World Records, the bar is over 405 feet long, making it longer than the Perry Memorial is tall.
East of the park is the Boathouse Bar & Grill, specializing in fresh local fish as well as burgers and sandwiches. To the north you will find the Crescent Tavern, serving lunch and dinner in either its elegant dining room or outside on the patio. Nearby, Pasquale’s Cafe offers a breakfast and lunch menu. An island tradition since 1952, The Chicken Patio cooks their birds on a 21-foot outdoor charcoal grill that you can smell from the mooring field.
For dining and drinking options, the Frosty Bar and Family Pizza has been serving hot pizza and cold beer to Put-in-Bay visitors for over 60 years. Not to be outdone, the distinctive and historic Roundhouse Bar claims to have been serving spirits, under one name or another, since 1873. Nearby, Mr. Ed’s Bar and Grill provides food, drinks and live entertainment.
