East Harbor State Park offers a large campground in addition to hiking trails and a swimming beach.

In addition to the amusement park and waterslides, the Sandusky Bay region is a popular destination for outdoor sportsmen of all kinds and the area hosts a wide assortment of campgrounds and motels.

As mentioned above, Kamp Kozy offers campsites in addition to marina slips and a launch ramp, making it a potential one-stop Sandusky vacation destination.

The East Harbor State Park campground boasts the largest number of camp sites in the entire Ohio State park system. The campground features rest rooms with running water and hot showers. In addition to some first-come-first-served sites, they also accept advance reservations. Like most boaters, you are probably self-sufficient when it comes to your water and electricity needs and, if you do not require these hook-ups, a primitive campsite at East Harbor is probably your most economical option. They also have campsites open year-round and may be your only option if you choose to boat in the late fall or early spring.

At this stage in the SailorGuides experiment, I have not had a chance to personally investigate the other campgrounds in the area but I hope to correct this and update the guide sometime during the 2010 season. Until then, other campgrounds in the area with currently working websites are (in no particular order): KOA Sandusky, Shade Acres, Tall Timbers, Surf Motel Campground, Camp Sandusky, Lazy J Family Campground, and Crystal Rock Campground. Please check out the web sites for these campgrounds to evaluate their suitability for your particular needs.
